Madiba-Zuma combination - did it work?

THERE was a brouhaha when former president and liberation icon Nelson Mandela openly endorsed and ruling party's election campaign ahead of the April 22.

So dear bloggers and citizens of the interactive space let's have your views on Madiba's decision to back the ANC of President Jacob Zuma. Was it the right thing or the wrong thing to do? What impact do you think Mandela's backing of the ANC had on the outcome of the election?

Do you think Madiba willingly or reluctantly endorsed the governing party? Let's talk... what's on your mind? Come one, spit it out in the name of freedom of expression...

  1. Mandela's support was definitely a drawcard to some extent. The ANC was smart enough to know that having his PUBLIC backing would attract some new voters and convince the doubtful ones that the party is still on the right track. After all, if Tata still believes in them then they can't be that bad, right? Did Mandela go willingly? Well, he certainly was not coerced into endorsing them, there was no gun held to his head. I think he did so more out of a sense of duty because the African National Congress has been an important part of his life for many decades now.

  3. There are and will always be cyinic politicians ! Without accusing anyone, I suspect the same people who accused the ANC to force Madiba to the rallye where admitted in hospital or travelling out of the country last week. Otherwise it's strange for them that they didn't accuse Bafana players to disturb of force the gate in Houghton !
